The
Gallery of Community celebrates the vital role of community in Catholic
life and captures the essence of the role of community in cultures around
the world. It is here that visitors realize how the Christian family,
by being followers of Christ, takes an active role in service to the
community. The activity the "Ministry of Jesus" creates this
special focus by utilizing the principle events and examples of service
that Jesus left for us to follow. The "Testimonials of Service"
enable visitors to trace the many ways in which the Church has continued
to follow the example of service to the present day. The testimonials
also allow visitors to see and hear of the personal giving and receiving
examples of others and also allow each visitor to add to the Center's
exhibit through creating a testimonial.
The
circular arrangement of benches in the Gallery is to spark discussion
among visitors about how the community impacts their faith. The interactive
station, the "Church of Many Cultures," looks at the enculturation
and incorporation of local rituals into the Catholic faith. It is by
providing the tools to learn about the role of service and community
in our lives, the Gallery expands upon the Center's themes of interaction
and participation to inspire visitors to take an active approach toward
enhancing our growing communities.
